You definitely want to outsource this and there are tons of companies that
will do this for you.
If you are using a CRM package, some of them will work with the CRM.
Check out Constant Contact, Vertical Response, Exact Target, etc

Since your client is a non-profit you may want to read an article
targeted towards non-profits about mass email vendors. The article is
a year old so the pricing may have changed, but the basic tenets
