that the battery is low, not based off of the runtime estimate. Even
if your UPS provided an estimated runtime this would still be the way
NUT worked.

is not enough time to shut down. Either your UPS is under specified
(ie the load is high) or the batteries are very, very, old.

reported a battery state that was healthy, but failed upon switching
to battery in under a second (the delay was enough to be apparent, but
too short to be timed). That it is new doesn't preclude a
failed/failing battery.

Either way, you'll need to replace the batteries every few years.
Over time they degrade and stop holding any meaningful charge. After
about 3-4 years my Belkin batteries only held about 2 seconds of

range of VA options. For low power kit you should get more than 5
minutes of runtime even off the smallest. You need to do the maths
and use their selector (which I've found to be pretty accurate).
Be warned that the 2900 has a pretty high power draw!

MGE do a pretty accurate UPS selector - you tell it what kit you've
got (or ISTR the power draw) and how long you want to keep running.
Some other suppliers do similar, but I don't know how accurate they
are.
