Thanks to Jerry L. for posting the sighting earlier to Geneseebirds. As
previously stated, both KING EIDERS were mostly hanging out together and

ice flows and the 2nd and 3rd breakwalls looking WSW from the
This morning we stopped by Pruyn Sanctuary in Millwood (8:00AM-9:00AM) but did
not observe the previously reported Yellow-headed Blackbird. From the Pruyn
Sanctuary we took a short drive to nearby Rockefeller State Park Preserve on
Route 117, where the immature Red-headed Woodpecker (10:15AM)
The Northern Shrike was also present on River Road this afternoon and
cooperated enough to get some good scope looks at it.

Birders in coastal NY might want to keep 'Ivory Gull' in mind over the
next few days or weeks. An adult was found today in Westport,
Massachusetts, which is right on the Rhode Island/Mass border. There
is speculation that it is the gorgeous adult that was on Cape Cod last

To follow up on Anthony Collerton's post, I also took a quick look at
the goose field on Further Lane in East Hampton (Suffolk Co.) late
this afternoon. After a few scans I picked out the four 1st-basic

Hi Rob,
I think you're probably right about the id but as far as I know no zoos in the
area have ever had this species in their collections. About it being a
vagrant, I don't know. It would seem like a stretch for it to come from
Australia
to here, but you never know. How many Australian
Ths morning an second winter Iceland Gull was hanging around at Iron Pier
