Last week's rain & wind storm did a lot of damage in some areas of
N.Y. City but spared Central Park (in relative terms) from the levels
of damage found in other areas of the city - including the losses of
100+ year-old trees in some parks and in the historic Greenwood
cemetery in Brooklyn
Tuesday afternoon, March 16, on the beach at Kiawah Island, South Carolina the
second color-banded Bahamas Piping Plover was seen by Aaron Given, a biologist
with the Town of Kiawah. This bird was banded on Barbary Beach, Grand Bahama
Island, The Bahamas January 27, 2010. Kiawah is ~425 air
Hello All, Pair of Osprey, both were dining when spotted by Bob
Adamo,John Macneil and myself on the marsh at William Floyd Estate,Mastic
yesterday.This morning Dick Belanger and I birded Terrell River County Park
in East Moriches and came up with 2 American Oystercatchers, a Ringnecked
At HLSP this morning the birding highlights were an Orange-crowned Warbler in
company with a singing Ruby-crowned Kinglet, both observed in the woods south
of the main parking area. The date suggests that the birds may have
successfully overwintered in our area or points immediately south.
This morning there was an Eastern Phoebe at the entrance to Port Dickinson
Park, in Binghamton.
