Hello All.There was a dearth of land birds on the barrier island at
Smith Point this morning. But the ocean was pretty lively with 30 or so Red
throated Loons and a constant movement of Scoters and Northern Gannets. I
had FOS Horned Grebe and the first sizeable raft of Bufflehead Duck,[85].

The GREAT CORMORANT had returned to his usual spot today after not having been
seen yesterday. The TUNDRA SWAN continued as well. Many Green-winged Teal, 18
American Coot, 1 Hooded Merganser, 1 Northern Pintail, 4 Mallard, 247 Canada
Geese rounded out the waterfowl. One Barred Owl was calling
Joe Giunta, Debbie Martin and I (Sy Schiff) went to Captree SP this morning
where a very cooperative group of birders shared sightings and assisted new
arrivals to locate the three birds, namely, Dickcissel, Western Kingbird and

the "Robert Moses Causeway" is one approach if
not coming in from Jones Beach Parkway "strip",
and continuing east. Easy to find then, go east...
easy to find the park, & hopefully a ground-dove!
