barrier beach where we enjoyed a nice collection of gulls off the

Due to my ignorance on the status of Ross's Goose, I gave the miss-impression
that records for this species should be submitted to NYSARC. This is in fact
incorrect and no reports are required for this species regardless of number. I
was aware of the Greater White-fronted Goose status, but tho
A great deal of flooding, and perhaps the hunting yesterday has made the Snow
Goose flock very skittish today. I spent a great deal of time pursuing them
with no luck. When they finally landed, they were so distant that it was
impossible to ID anything. I just got a call from Scott Baldinger
I know have two gorgeous Fox Sparrows at my feeding stations. They are such
beautiful birds. The Hermit Thrush is still putting in appearences aswell.
Spring must be close cause all the birds are more vocal and the grackles have
arrived back at the feeders and nesting trees.

A little while ago (approx. 10:15 am) from my apartment in the Inwood
section of northern Manhattan, I saw an Osprey from fly over going north.
This is the earliest I have seen an Osprey in NY (by a few days), but I am
fairly sure it is not an early record.

Saturday's Great South Bay Audubon waterfowl trip turned up two Cackling Geese
and an astounding 104 Redhead, as counted by Michael McBrien, all at Capri Lake
in West Islip. The Cackling Geese were in a flock of Canadas which shuttles
between Capri Lake and the athletic fields around West Islip

2008, and I'd like to point out that this information was published very
prominently in the March 2009 issue of "The Kingbird," Volume 59,
