There was a bit of a fall out this morning at Jones Beach West End. Not overwhelming, but you didn't have to look hard for the next bird. Most notable were Hooded, Wilson's, Tennessee, and Blackburnian Warblers. Most numerous were Blackpoll, Magnolia, and Parula. I only noticed this when

There was a Prothonotary Warbler this morning and afternoon in Prospect Park. The gentleman who told me about it when I reached the park said he had seen it at Rick's Place. And while I missed it there, it did land in a tree in front of me, while I was on my way out of the park, along the path

Does anyone know if it's legal to catch horseshoe crabs in NYS? There was a guy this afternoon around 2:30 at the Jones Beach CG Station spit collecting them in a large orange basket. I asked what he was doing and he said working. Please reply to me privately so as not to start a discussion

Was able to see the 5 Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks at Wallkill River NWR's Liberty Loop Trail at 8am today.  They were actually north of Oil City Rd. in the second impoundment on the left where all the mallards and pipers are.  Had nice looks as they flew around and fed.  Observed them til
