It was a great day for hawks along the inland ridges - I would think. But
getting there, maybe not so good. Scrapping plans for an October trip
because of snow - that's a first. So there's Fort Tilden - beautiful and
snowless -- as a fallback. And it was an interesting day, so excuse the

Hello all,
While I am sure I saw a YELLOW-BILLED LOON I am still somewhat in shock
that such a rare bird would make an appearance in my spotting scope! Nick
Sly and I made the pre-dawn drive up from Ithaca and spent the morning
lakewatching from the north end of Broadway Rd. Our excellent views
Paid a 2.5 hour visit to the Fire Island hawk watch this afternoon.
Over 100 raptors had already been counted when I arrived at 1:30,
the majority between 8:00 and 11:00. I missed an immature Bald Eagle

sight
A Red-necked Grebe was on the larger Tarrytown Lake this morning, along with
at least 4 Pied billed between the two lakes.

Tim Lenz just posted to the CAYUGARBA text alert that a/the
breeding-plumaged YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen flying west from Broadway
Road on Lake Ontario this morning. This is just west of Fair Haven...likely
the same bird Chris Wood reported a few weeks ago.
I'm sure we'll get a more detailed repo
