The ice skating rink is gone and the first daffodils popped up in Bryant Park
over two weeks ago but as the saying goes, birds only check the local weather
so despite the unusually warm weather, midtown pre-spring birding has so far
been marked more by departures than arrivals. So there has bee

Monday at the Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC) in Queens, NYC I
spotted a blue-winged teal and a first of the year for me great blue
heron at the marsh restoration. There is a new walkway at APEC that
leads into the marshes and it should be a good spot for birding. The
old walkway was good. T
Under our new 'accelerated review' policy, the New York State Avian Records
Committee (NYSARC) will shortly begin deliberations on two potential
additions to the NYS Checklist: GRACE'S WARBLER (Point Lookout, Nassau Co.)
and GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCH (Black Dome Mountain, Greene Co. &
Boonville/Locus
