I took the American Princess Whale/Dolphin Watching Cruise out of Riis Landing,
Breezy Point, Queens today - noon to 4:00 pm, going to waters south of the
Rockaways. As well as fantastic sightings, right beside the boat, of two
Humpback Whales (all within sight of the NYC Skyline), 25-30
I believe this to be a juvenile Foster's Tern already molting into the first

Saw this in the distance on the shore of the west pond at JBWR on 8.8.12 I
cannot figure out what it is... thinking immature common tern or forster's but
the color on the body is throwing me off. Please email

A Lark Sparrow crossed the west parking field at West End 2 around 11:00
am and was last seen in the trees behind the picnic table area.

I decided to have lunch at Cedar Beach County Park today and I'm glad I did. At
least 6 WHIMBRELS were feeding during low tide on the inside flats as well as
along the edges of the marsh. The birds were evenly spread out within the
complex. Some of the birds were often concealed behind patches

The marbled godwit was seen west of the Ponquogue Bridge this morning
around 9 AM at low tide. It was best seen from the end of Road K,
bayside, looking to the northwest. There is a dirt spit with reeds,
just west of the big island. The godwit was seen just beyond the dirt
