Getting a late start again, I arrived at Robert Moses SP's Field #2 at ~ 1100,
where I was greeted by 6 ground-feeding Golden-crowned Kinglets, the first of ~
50 scattered from there to P/F #5. Had a flock of ~ 30 Pine Siskin's near the
Hawk watch platform, as well as my FOS White-crowned Sparr

I spent the day at the Massapequa Preserve walking up the paved
walking/biking path and down the Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt hiking
trail. There were lots of land birds and waterfowl, including some
late migrants. In particular there were five species of warblers in a
park that usually doesn't have a

Today we experienced the single highest count ever of Brant passing through the
county. A total of 1,184 Brant were tallied through the day. Almost all
skeins were photographed as the birds passed low through the Bashakill. For

I just got off the phone with Sean Sime, who is at the edge of Prospect Lake
looking at the Barnacle Goose. The bird is within a flock of 19 Canada Geese
near Three Sisters Island.

October 25 - At Batavia Waste Water Treatment Plant (Genesee County)

I just found a VESPER SPARROW in a section of Alley Pond Park (Queens) that
I don't normally check (but I had a few minutes to fill). Being that it's a
weekday in October, the ball fields near 73rd Avenue and 224 St. are quiet,
allowing some birds to hang around. 2 Eastern Bluebirds were also here.
My little Brooklyn garden is VERY active right now with a large roving
flock of WTSP, PISI, HOFI, in addition to the residents...foraging on
weeds that have gone to seed (sometimes being lazy pays off!) Most
activity I've seen all fall.
But mostly, I wanted to mention that there was one mal

There has been a good flight of Cave Swallows at Hamlin Beach (Monroe
County) today - through about 10:15 there were a total of 96, all going
west. Initially they were passing by in small groups (2-3 birds) but there
were several groups of around 15-20 birds. Other birds passing by included

Peter Dorosh just reported that the Barnacle Goose is back on Prospect Lake
this morning.
