Was at the 79th St Boat Basin from about 3:30 to 5:30pm today. There was
little rain when I arrived, and the cafe provided a safe high-ground haven well
protected from the elements to scan the river - from chairs even. Nothing much
to report - although watching the birds battling up-river agai

I just came back from a quick trip to the east shore of the Hudson River in
Sleepy Hollow NY. This is a very short trip for me, along neighborhood
streets. I spent ten minutes or so at each of two observation points about a
quarter mile apart.

single Royal Tern flyby - the bird was headed south toward Manhattan.

is I had 7 SURF SCOTERS flying north about 30 minutes ago fairly close to
the Jersey side of the Hudson.

I got to the Hudson at about 8:30 this am, and though Peter Scully and I didn't
see anything too absurdly oceanic we had a few WHITE-WINGED and a BLACK SCOTER,
likely trying to avoid the storm. A PINE SISKIN was a nice surprise too. Nearly
all birds were flying up river.
