Brett Gleitsmann sent photos to the NYSARC email address showing what
appears to be the Elegant Tern. I shared the images with Andy Guthrie and
Andrew Baksh who agree it's likely the same bird.
If I understand Brett's message correctly it was photographed on some sand
flats just west of the
Red-necked Stint and 2-3 Arctic Terns present on the flats in the early
afternoon (sorry, didnt have phone or watch on me). Lots of birders. A few let
me see through their scopes. Many thanks.
Also at least 5 Black Terns, 3 Royal Terns and numbers of Roseates. The
Roseates, and only them,
Mike Feder and I went to Cupsogue today, hot spot that it has been. But by
mid-morning the lot was full and all comers were turned away for the
foreseeable future (we circled repeatedly before giving up). So forget the
tide charts, worse and more sociologically based barriers remain.
Anyway,
No Elegant Term yet but Black, Roseate Terns and that hybrid Dunlin
