Today at Chestnut Ridge Hawkwatch--just outside the village/town of
Mount Kisco NY (Region 9), our first passage adult Broad-winged Hawk
passed at height directly over the watch platform at ~8:50 EST. Until
today (we began the count 15 August), we've only observed residents and
dispersing juvenile
A favorable mid-day low tide at Cupsogue Co. Park boded well for an early
morning's birding. On first arriving on the flats Mike Higgiston was watching a
Marbled Godwit; a second bird was quickly found. Richard Kaskan discovered an
Upland Sandpiper on the flats across the channel. We watched as
Karen Fung and I are looking at a Wilson's Phalarope on the North End
of the East Pond. We are on the west side and looking at the bird
across the pond on the East Side. Good luck if you try for it.

Mark French and I were on the beach at Field #2 at 5:45AM. The show did not
begin until 7:34AM, when the first of 35 CORY'S SHEARWATERS passed - all
were heading east to west. A single MANX SHEARWATER passed - west to east,
a few minutes after the first Cory's. The Cory's were still moving when we
This morning around 8, the two marbled godwits were present on a mud
flat at Cupsogue S.P. Low tide will be about 12 noon.
Richard Kasdan found an upland sandpiper for Kenny Feustal and myself on
the island across from the parkland.
Richard also had 4 fly-by cliff swallows.
