Yesterday afternoon I had a little free time before the Giant-Bronco game,
so I decided to check-out some of the area's sod fields. While traveling
west on Sound Ave, w/o Doctor's Path, I noticed 5 T.V's circling to the s/o
me, in the vicinity of Reeves Ave. I continued on, checking the recently

fort. Highlights included two rose-breasted grosbeaks, eight scarlet tanagers,

Resisting the urge to bird some of my local parks, I instead opted for some
barrier beach birding.
My first and last stop was at Jones Beach where I birded with Tom Burke and
Gail Benson for most of the morning into the afternoon. The highlights were:
Adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKER, seen in the
I spent a few hours in Inwood Hill Park this morning. It was much quieter
than yesterday, but there were still some birds around. My first warbler of
the morning was a Bay-breasted Warbler in the trees along the nw corner of

A really good day to be out on a Bird walk. The SOFO (South Fork Natural
Society) group recorded 25 species. The highlights were: Yellow-billed
Cuckoo, Scarlet Tanager, Baltimore Oriole, Great-crested Flycatcher, 5
warblers
(Pine, Redstart, Parula, Magnolia, B)
