Our Day Tour along the Niagara River turned up 44 species. We covered Fort
Niagara, Lewiston Docks, Devil's Hole, Whirlpool, and Goat Island on the U.S.
side, and the Control Gates, Dufferin, and Adam Beck on the Canadian side.
Highlights included:
Red-throated Loon - 1
Common Loon - 2
Tundra S
The dead snowy should probably be deposited at the American Museum. It might be
wise if someone could perform a necropsy to determine cause of death. This is
at least the third dead snowy owl in a week. The other two were weak birds
found north of NYC. They both died in the hands of rehabilitato
I have contacted Paul Sweet at AMNH about the owl.

Found a dead snowy owl today (Sunday) at road I off of Dune Rd. 8:30am or so.
Also found two living Snowy Owls as we'll.

This morning a female Harlequin Duck was found near the Breezy Point
Tip jetty by Jeff Ritter who passed on the intel when I ran into him
at the said location. It was still in the same location when I left
and hotly in pursuit by a certain "Big City Year" participant.
Later at Floyd Bennett Fiel
A female was first spotted by Jeff Ritter. After a while I refound the bird as
it flushed off the jetty after a large boat came by too close. Shortly after 2
more (both females) flew by.
So a total of 3 were there.

Hi guys,
I decided to check out the Long Island Sound yesterday and see what was
there. Not a huge amount of terribly interesting birds, but okay. Here is
the list.
7 Great Black-backed Gull (life bird)
200+ Ring-billed Gull
20 Herring Gull (2 banded)
100+ Canada Geese (7 banded)

Not sure who this birder was in Montauk yesterday, but she may have saved the
life of a fisherman whose boat capsized and was clinging to a life raft. From
Newsday's website:
"A fisherman was plucked from the chilly waters off Montauk Point Saturday
afternoon by a Coast Guard crew after an aler
Currently looking at it perched in a bare tree just south of the WE2 parking
lot (SW corner).
