My dad and I spent some time this weekend birding the agricultural fields around Northville and Riverhead. Despite struggling to find Cackling Geese around Long Island since late December, we had remarkable success this weekend. We had a single in the field west of Church Lane late on Friday
Previously reported at this location by Derek & Elizabeth Rogers, the adult
winter black-headed gull being seen now across from Road I with small number of
Bonies.

The Shrike was observed by Dave Lamagna , myself and 8 other birders at the
south west corner of the parking lot around 10:30 am. Observed for a couple
minutes, clear views before it dropped down into the Phrags.

Pete Morris and I have relocated the previously "lost" flock of Riverhead
Canada Geese that the Pink-footed Goose may have been seen with.
Flock is currently in the field that is formed in the corner of Sound Ave and
Osborn Ave.
Heat haze is a real killer- no Pink-footed Goose (yet) but Pete
Highlights from my Saturday morning bird walk include: RUSTY BLACKBIRDS-6
(adults and immatures) and GOLDEN CROWNED KINGLET.

Yellow bellied sapsucker-1
Downy woodpecker-1
Red bellied woodpecker -3

I wrote this post out last night, but forgot to send it. Yesterday, the
adult Iceland Gull (w/dark wing tips) was again found at the Iron Pier
Beach, Jamesport, along with "The Birding McBreins", Michael & his
Super-Dad, Mike. The tide was up to the parking lot - except for major
storms, this was
The black vulture was found roosting on the roof of the house opposite
the church at the corner of Rte 58 and Church Lane in Riverhead this
morning around 8:15. It was associating with about a dozen TVs.
