The Smithtown Count (Suffolk County, LI) was held on Saturday, December 27
with some of the mildest weather in count memory. The day began at a cool
30 degrees and ended with a balmy 54 degrees and no wind throughout the day.
We tallied 111 species which is 5 off of our count record. The highligh

Hi all,
The Cassin's Kingbird is currently putting on a show at the Floyd Bennet
Field community gardens. It has been very actively foraging in the
northeast corner of the gardens.
Thanks to all who kept posting updates of this bird!
Good birding,

Flycatching in tree w yellow buds at corner of Jane St and Washington St. Just
follow its loud calls or the stream of bemused tourists. Lots of non-birders
getting into it.

I high-tailed it down to Jane and Washington after landing at LGA this
afternoon but despite about 20 people searching, from about 3:15 until
dark the Couch's Kingbird was not located. Does anyone know where it goes
to roost? Any sense of the best late afternoon spot?

For the record, the COUCH'S KINGBIRD was not seen until it appeared at the
corner of Jane St and Washington St at 9:52 this morning. It flew in from
the southeast and then remained along Washington Street until 10:33. It
left in the same direction from which it flew in.
