Following up on Andrew's discovery of an American Avocet at the East Pond of
Jamaica Bay WR. Ed Becher and myself made our

the walking conditions. There are mud flats at the south end and some at the
north with shorebirds feeding in both places. However, at present, regular

I spent the morning shore birding at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, my first trip
there this year. Birding was somewhat disappointing - I could only muster ten
species of shorebirds. However, it was good to see the American Avocet at the
north end of the East Pond as well as good numbers of Semipa
I should note that the recent heavy rains broke up some of the Algae on the
pond and it was nice to see various openings in the mat.
