Today [29 Aug 2015] John Shemilt, Rich Fried and I fished over two of the
canyons off eastern Long Island (Suffolk Co.), enjoying flat seas and
almost no wind. The indisputable highlight of a wonderful day on the water
were a series of BLACK-CAPPED PETRELS, concentrated over the McMaster
Canyon

Warbling Vireo

This afternoon I opted for checking the sod farms again, starting at
Doctors Path, Riverhead, and ending with the fields on Main Rd. (Rt.25)
Peconic. All told, I looked over 11 of them, without seeing 1
shorebird...yes, that is correct, not even a single Killdeer !
On Oregon Rd., Cutchogue, I
Jones Beach 29 Aug
Joe Giunta and I (Sy Schiff) went down to the West End after lunch. Low tide.
The bar and surrounding beaches were covered with boaters and beach goers. We
went over to the ponds between the two parking lots. They are now completely
dried out. A week ago there was some
Coney island creek park. Spotted by Doug Gochfeld. Seen on two different
occasions may still be around
