This afternoon, October 17, saw one male White-winged Scoter on the lake,
along with a flock of about 30 Common Mergansers.

The radar from last night was quite accurate as there were many birds at the
garden especially hawks. But the rarest find was a NELSON's SPARROW in the
swale closest to the sign that reads "What is a Wetland." It was hunkered down

Pete Morris, and I tallied 23 Yellow Palm Warblers, plus 5 more Palms that we
were unable to assign.
The overall total is not really exceptional for this species-site-date
combination, but the number of Yellow Palms--

Spent almost exactly 10 hours at Jones Beach West End today, beginning just
before sunrise. The favorable conditions and strong winds resulted in a lot
of movement. The birders who were out on this brisk fall day definitely
reaped the rewards. Two Red-headed Woodpeckers were observed, an adult male
At Mariandale Retreat and Conf. Center Ossining (off Rte 9), Kyle Bardwell and
I had likely more than 100 palm warblers -- everywhere. Also of note at least
2 blackpoll, swamp and field sparrow, raven and a late Osprey.

Bird has not been re-found despite many people looking. We did find a Nelson's
Sparrow as well.

A breezy morning walk at CPP found among many other birds 4 WC and 3 field
sparrow, 4 bald eagle all young birds in various stages, Merlin (some in group
saw 2), 1 harrier, 1 Cooper's hawk, lots of waxwings, a BH vireo, kingfisher,
and great looks at a grey cheeked thrush.

Jones Beach is hopping today! Full report to come later. I just found a YB Chat
at the Coast Guard hedgerow. The other stars of the show have been a confiding
Red-headed Woodpecker and the continuing Lark Sparrow. Many migrants, good
numbers and diversity. Full report later!

Saw bird early in morning but not well enough. Just had it again but saw
perfectly this time. Bird is directly across from fenced in soccer field with
the bleachers that is just west of Aviator. There is a lone tree in middle of
