Thanks to Adrian Burke, who tweeted the flycatcher at 8:55am our group had only
to walk up the hill from the Boathouse to see the bird of the day, a flycatcher
that has yet to be identified as either Pacific-slope
It goes without saying that 'Western Flycatcher' (an amalgam of
Pacific-slope and Cordilleran Flycatchers) is a NYSARC review species.
There is one prior record for New York State (NYSARC 2003-54-A/B), a bird
that was trapped by Randy Moore multiple times near the Fire Island
Lighthouse (Suffolk C
At around 3:30pm today, while observing a flock of Pine Siskins along the
path between the point and the oven, where the Red-headed Woodpecker has
been hanging out, I refound the Western Flycatcher. A number of observers
got on it, and some got photos. It vocalized a few times, a high pitch,

Thanks to Dennis for the heads up. Heydi Lopes and I relocated the gull at
around 9:45am within the flocks of Bonaparte's Gulls. They were all feeding
just offshore in Gravesend Bay between Coney Island Creek Park and Norton
Point. The black-headed disappeared for a bit but returned at around 10
The North Shore Audubon Society will hold its monthly program on Tuesday,
November 24, 2015, from 7pm to 9pm, at the Manhasset Public Library, 30
Onderdonk Avenue, Manhasset NY 11030. All are invited, free of charge.
Public transportation users: This location is a half-mile walk from the

One Long billed Dowitcher is feeding with a Dunlin at the south end of the East

Interesting eastward movement of Black-legged Kittiwakes as seen from Hither

A fishing boat moved through flock and reshuffled gulls. As of 9:15 we could
not relocate bird but there are now about 200 Bonapartes feeding in the area.

Bobbi Manian and I have a black headed gull in a flock of 100 or so Bonapartes
at Norton point in Brooklyn. Flock is moving toward Coney Island Creek.

Who will come and look for the Western flycatcher in the Ramble today.
A large swath of the Ramble is fenced off for construction work this
winter. To get to to spot for the Western flycatcher walk in from the
Boathouse and walk up the hill in to Ramble area and take first path
