This morning I spent 4 hours unsuccessfully looking for the probable California
Gull that was seen yesterday near Gravesend Bay.
I walked from the Khols parking lot to the Verazanno Bridge and back. There was
not a whole lot of gulls to look at but the prize was not amongst those that
were
I made the trip out to pick up some continuing rarities out east on Long
Island today - here's the recap.
Belmont Lake - Ross's Goose, Cackling Goose, 2 Greater White-fronted Geese.
Eastport Pond - 8 Canvasback, 1 Redhead
Dune Road near Triton Lane - American Bittern
Reeves and Roanoke - no
Seen both yesterday late afternoon (5:20pm) and today (5:03pm), two Short-eared
Owls, viewed from the northern blocked-off runway dirt access. The birds were
flying near the tree line, along the north eastern portion of the taxiway -
eventually flying between our vantage point and the hanger
The male Wilson's Warbler persists at Bronx Zoo. Seen again today actively
gleaning bamboo foliage in the mature clumps that surround Wild Asia Plaza,
near Jungleworld exhibit entry. Calling frequently as it foraged. Also,
Rusty Blackbirds seen (20, maybe more) in the swampy woodland patch
