The 70th annual Rockland County Christmas Bird Count was held on Sunday,
December 18, 2016. A total of 35 field counters and 5 feeders counter
participated. Weather conditions were poor throughout the entire day. The

A Greater White-fronted Goose was just found, but took off with Canada
Geese at 4:00 PM. A drake Pintail is also on the lake with more expected
species. Two Common Ravens harassed a Peregrine Falcon sitting in a

Like the Pink-foot that went missing for the Queens CBC yesterday but
returned today, the Barnacle Goose was a no-show for the Captree count
yesterday, but is now resting comfortably on Belmont Lake.

Quick run to Hendrickson Park in Valley Stream, NASSAU COUNTY, NY turned up
all the previously reported rarities. Namely Pink-footed Goose, Cackling
Goose and Red-headed Woodpecker. The Woodpecker favors the area near the

species plus 4 count week birds. (And count week continues until
Wednesday.) We also had a Northern Bobwhite but it was undoubtedly a
release so we won't count it towards our total though it will be submitted
