Today I saw my first Snowy Owl of the season...but it almost didn't happen ! Arriving at Dune Rd., by way of the Post Lane Bridge, Quogue, I headed east, on my 3rd or 4th try for this season's much reported, *Nyctea scandiaca.* While I had some nice birds on D.R. before reaching Shinnicock Inlet,

When working on the NYS eBird Hotspots wiki I'll compare the previous bar chart list of species with the current one picking up any additions or deletions. By going to each county's 'Overview' page you can determine the date the species was added by county. Some are from newly submitted checklists

Eric Miller forwarded me a picture taken by Lisa Scheppke yesterday of a Ross' Goose that they saw on a pond inside Fort Totten in northeastern Queens. It looks very similar to the one from Baisley Pond. Characteristics include some gray on the head, a slight curvature at the base of the bill, and

Im looking right now at 4 female common mergensers, incl.one sitting on the ice,one redhead, one cackling goose that's kinda weird and dark with a interesting white patch on it's head,and another more typical cackling goose. 40% of pond still all ice, this is @ grant park in Hewlett, Nassau

I had two Red-shouldered Hawks in the northern section of Van Cortlandt Park near the Forest Ave./Lee Ave. intersection in Yonkers.  This is right on the border of Yonkers and the Bronx.  They were about 100feet in from the street.  It's so nice to see this species so regularly now after being
