My little Brooklyn garden is VERY active right now with a large roving
flock of WTSP, PISI, HOFI, in addition to the residents...foraging on
weeds that have gone to seed (sometimes being lazy pays off!) Most
activity I've seen all fall.
But mostly, I wanted to mention that there was one

(Friday), perching on the dead tree across the road from the supposed
nest area, soaring, and carrying nesting material. Lost sight of him
when he entered the denser trees next to the parking lot.

3 Great Egrets (a FOS for me), were flying above the East River yesterday,
spotted from the FDR around 100th St. Presumably, they're back at the East
River islands, as Mill Rock Island is nearby. They were soaring in a circular
fashion, not heading somewhere, from what it looked like. Almost

Heard my first Red-winged Blackbirds of the season...and with the
setting sun turning the phragmites golden, it almost felt like
summer! From a higher spot at the swimming pool, I was able to
finally see them...about 20 males
