On Thursday evening, December 27, 10:15 pm, an unlikely American Woodcock was
seen dodging traffic and theater-leaving pedestrians in the area of Manhattan's
8th Avenue and 45th Streets!
You never know what you'll see or when you'll see it.

A Barnacle Goose was seen today, early afternoon, at Pelham Bay Park, The
Bronx, on the lawns around the entrance to the parking lot at Orchard Beach
with the roaming flocks of Canada Goose. It had a white band on its right leg.
Good luck if you go.

Correction: The second American White Pelican touched down on the JBWR East
Pond around 11:50 am and flew south (while I was on my cell with Andrew Baksh)
around 12:05 pm. Later appearing briefly soaring, then again departed. 15
minute wonder?
Good birding,

nfirmed the sighting. It will be interesting to see if this new
bird stays around. Other "good" birds of the morning were the continuing
Hudsonian Godwit, Wilson's Phalarope, juvenile Black Tern and Least Bittern.
Birding surprises abound,

The American White Pelican was still putting on a show (around 1:30 pm),
swimming and actively (and successfully) fishing, in it's now usual spot on the
north beach.

phragmites. It was very feisty with Yellowlegs and Sandpipers, keeping them
out of the way. 14 species of shorebirds (the 2 Avocets were still there on
the west side) and a Bank Swallow in with all of the Barn's, made for an
altogether satisfying afternoon.
