This long staying and very cooporative bird is still frequenting its
previously described location. When I had it today at 2:30PM (rather easily),

was foraging in a red maple at the NE corner of A.J. Hendrickson Park. Its
soft call notes heard a few minutes before connecting visually, al
The Warbler is still around as of 12:30 PM when I left it. Now in its
ninth day at this location, it's important to know that this bird is now
covering a lot more ground, and should be looked for around the streams at the
south end of the park as well as areas within A.J. Hendrickson Park, wh
As of about 12:30PM or so, the bird has not been seen. A search by many
birders failed to come up with the bird at its previous described locations as
well as other suitable habitat within the park. A.J. Henrickson Park (to
the south) was also searched. The last known appearance today was at
This Dark Phase bird is likely the same bird I saw this past Friday (Feb.
14) about a half mile south of Norman J. Levy Preserve, seen well enough
while driving North on the Meadowbrook Pkwy. This was at about 5PM.

Like Joe and Sy, I also did some pre-CBC scouting at Hempstead Lake
covering a similar broad area, but later in the day - from 2-4PM. I found
some
of the species noted in Sy's post, minus the RS Hawk, Common Mergs, Ravens
and Towhees. 6 GW Teal were on the north side along with many of the
I re-found Andrew's Western Kingbird fairly easily just north of the inner
turnaround at JBWE at about 5:45 PM. Seen well at times to clearly
separate it from any of the other Western-type species, this bird seemed very
comfortable foraging mainly in any of the deciduous trees within the cle
I also saw the Ruff at exactly the same spot as described by JT in an
earlier post from today. Scanning a broad area from the spit closest to the
island along with a fellow birder from out of town (with much experience with
this species), we found the Ruff after close to 2 hours - which was
I received a message from Ed Becher at about 2:15 this afternoon while he
was with a Black-necked Stilt at Zach's Bay, resting beside an
Oystercatcher. He initially found this bird in one of the shallow ponds within
the Golf
Course area before it flew over to the Bay. I didn't get to chase
In nearly 4 hours of birding at Jones Beach West End, Andrew Baksh and I

Once on the large mixed flock that's been around the area (at times), I
managed about a 5 second view of the bird after about 35 minutes of scanning
and chasing around. The bird looks much brighter than the images posted by
Ken Feustel, but is apparently the same bird. This was at about 4:20
I had some good quality time in the field today with some nice results.
These are the highlights from multiple stops within 3 locations:

same 2 that were recently harassing the Terns over at Nickerson Beach) and

I visited 3 of my regular spots in S. Nassau today.(Sunday - July 3,

finishing up at Jones Beach West End (JBWE) with pretty much expected species

There are still nice numbers of Redhead as Bob Grover mentioned on 7Mar. at
Capri Lake (West Babylon). I counted 76 around 5:00 this afternoon. Also
about 225 Lesser Scaup and 30 Ruddy Duck. Nothing special at nearby Argyle
Lake, with 100's of Black Duck, 15 Am. Wigeon and 2 Gadwall.

There are now 2 Tundra Swans on the Pittsburg Avenue Pond at Massapequa
Preserve as of 12:30 PM Christmas Day. Several Mutes were around providing a
nice all around comparison, and showing how easily this species can be
overlooked.

An "Eastern Race" Nashville Warbler turned up out of the thickets at Valley
Stream State Park on Thanksgiving Day at about 2:30 PM. Other than that,
land birds were pretty slow except for a smattering of WT Sparrows and up to
3 very vocal Brown Creepers around the mid-section of the Park. Hav
