Folks help is needed to protect critical shorebird habitat. The rain
puddles at Miller Field on Staten Island are being drained by a contractor
who was hired by NPS. The contractor said that they were told that there
were no nesting birds there or anything else of concern by NPS and Fish and
Wildl

1 Parastic Jaeger came onshore at sundown and buzzed the east Tern colony.
Also had an adult Arctic Tern on the beach of the east Tern colony as well.
5 Roseate Terns sitting on beach
After being in same spot for an hour or so the bird picked up and flew south
east. Have not been able to relocate it.

Was doing a seawatch off of the base of the ferry, near where the 9/11
memorial is and was lucky when a 1st year Black-legged Kittiwake flew by.

Birded the north end after work. Tide was wrong. Numbers were very low. Only
birds of note were 9 Stilt Sandpipers and 1 Pectoral Sandpiper.

Encouraged by Heydi Lopes find of one in Deadhorse Bay I got to the beach. Have
seen 4 so far. All going west to east. These are the first I've seen in NYC
since before Hurricane Sandy.

Just had an adult white ibis fly by while I'm sitting in traffic on the belt
parkway. The bird was near exit 6S while I'm traveling west. Bird was flying
east towards Coney Island. Hopefully it will touch down someplace where others
can see it.

I was eventually chased off the beach by an angry and hostile Breezy resident
who was completely unimpressed by an Arctic Tern on "his" beach. Bird was seen
about 5:45 and I've just gotten back to the car.

I did a 2 1/2 hour see you watch off of the Fishermens lot at Fort Tilden in
Queens. Birds of note were an adult black tern and a sooty shearwater (The
first I have had in the city since before hurricane Sandy)

Seen clearly in flight over the marsh. Also large numbers of other shorebirds.
Plus had a Gull-billed Tern working the marsh as well.

Currently a singing male Prothonotary not more than 100 yards south east of
Martlings Avenue. Park at Martlings by the bridge and walk south east along the
main path on west side of pond. Listen for bird on both sides of path. Reported
yesterday afternoon but I did not see it then.

Amazingly for the second time in 3 years I just had an adult Mississippi Kite
fly over my house. It was traveling north west so keep an eye to the sky if you
are in Brooklyn.

Just had a cattle Egret in full plumage in the marsh during high wind and rain.
Numbers of semipalmated plover and short-billed dowitchers up quite a bit.

Had 1 briefly touch down and then fly out to the bay to the east.
2 White-crowned Sparrows singing at northwest corner of main lot are nice for
spring.

Bird is sitting in open at the lower pond. Brooks Pond. The one closest to
Forest Avenue. At edge of phrags that are facing the large stone bridge. Strong
migration and many other species here such as Spotted Sandpiper, Green Heron,
and others that have been widely reported.
