A nice array of geese were seen on Belmont Lake this morning. I first arrived at 8:00 AM and quickly picked out 2 CACKLING GEESE, both separate from one another.
At about 8:10, I watched 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE fly in from the west and land in the center of the lake. One of the two birds was a juvenile (partially developed "front") and the other an adult. Perhaps the juvenile found the lingering adult that has been seen in the area. I also feel there's a chance that these are 2 new birds, as Chase only noted 1 adult bird yesterday evening. There are many geese in this vicinity. The white-fronteds only stayed on the lake for about 10 minutes before flying off. Finally, the BARNACLE GOOSE drifted out from behind the north islands and remained on site when I left the park at 8:30.
