There was a nice assortment of gulls at Coney Island this morning.

Peter Colen and I started on the beach at the end of Stillwell Avenue, working
our way West towards Seagate. The first good bird of the day was a first year
Glaucous Gull roosting on the sand with the expected gull species in the shadow
of the old parachute ride. A few dozen Bonaparte's Gulls were seen flying back
and forth off of Seagate, which is the Western-most end of the Coney Island
peninsula. At Coney Island Creek Park we spotted a second (?) Glaucous Gull on
the beach near the mouth of Coney Island Creek. Comparing the photos to
determine if it was a second individual was inconclusive, although Dennis
Hrehowsik had actually seen a pair of first year GLGUs in the vicinity a week
ago. As we continued West along the beach we spotted a Lesser Black-backed Gull
not far from the lighthouse at Norton Point.
