Today on the Croton Point Park I found a verity of sparrows on the landfill. The species list included Song Sparrow, White-throated sparrow, Savannah sparrow, Field Sparrow, White-Crowned Sparrow, Chipping Sparrow, Lincoln's Sparrow, House Sparrow, Swamp Sparrow, and a female DICKCISSEL. I flushed the Dickcissel while I was moving along the hedgerow on the road leading up to the campgrounds. The bird was larger than the song sparrows and the red wing patches were very visible. When the bird flew to a bush on the landfill, it turned to reveal a bright yellow breast and yellow in front of the eyes. The breast was unmarked otherwise. Other birds of note were a brown creeper, a yellow bellied sapsucker, a hermit thrush, and spotted sandpiper. Good Birding! -Lewis Lolya --
