I followed up on the Feustel's report of iceland gulls off the west jetty
at Lake Montauk and they were still present as of yesterday afternoon.
There was another iceland gull (first winter) at Accabonac Harbor today,
along with hundreds of long-tailed ducks, and several lesser scaup, common

Not the best day for Gulling with the high winds but it was fun. The
highlights were: 1st Cycle Iceland Gull @ Brooklyn Army Terminal Pier. Looks
like the one I reported back on 1-3. Also still present was the continuing
Appledore banded Herring Gull C47 (white on green).

To me it makes no more sense to dismiss hybridization amongst those two
species as a mechanism for primary darkening than it does to invoke it.
Just because it's not proven doesn't mean the alternative is true either.
It would be one thing if, say, glaucoides in Iceland (the country) were
Shai distilled down some common-sensical aspect of the complications
surrounding Iceland Gulls and what our perceptions are about how solid these
are as a taxon. As an exiled Brit, I grew up on nominate glaucoides Iceland
Gull and it often involved searching through these for a vagrant kumlieni

2 Iceland Gulls (juveniles). Along beach and jetty at Gosman's, West Lake Dr.,
Montauk. Seen at 12:48 PM, 11-26.
