We just received notification from the Banding Lab and want to thank you
for reporting your resighting of the Glossy Ibis 1116-50056 (also known as
049).
In case others are curious: that bird was banded as a pre-fledged chick by
our team (NYC Audubon) on 17 June 2010 on Canarsie
I birded the East Pond for a few hours today testing access along the north end
and getting in some shorebirding.
An estimated 300 Shorebirds on the East Pond consisting of 8 species. The
highlights included LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER (1), STILT SANDPIPERS (21). All

This morning, despite the rain I spent some time breaking up and raking
some Algae on the north west end of the pond. I think it looks much better
there now and the next effort, would be on the south end all along the east
side.

The Line Islands aren't what they used to be. Pat and I visited with John
Zarudsky from the Town of Hempstead on 29 July 2011 (by the way, somebody ought
to call Shane Blodgett and ask him if he remembers that day!) and spent some
very enjoyable time around Egg Island and North
17 species of shorebirds today. The highlight was the continuing *AMERICAN
AVOCET, **LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER* *(found by Tom Burke, Gail Benson and
Bob), *a couple of *WESTERN SANDPIPERS* AND *RED KNOT.*
Other notable shorebirds included Ruddy Turnstones and White-rumped
Sandpiper.

Late this afternoon, I hiked the East Pond working my way from the South to
the North End and back (note: the water remains high in certain places, but
I found the pond to be navigable with proper care and gear).
There appeared to be more shorebirds around than the previous day with the
variety ho
