For those planning to go to Mecox Bay for the Phalaropes tomorrow...The
birds are visible from the eastern side of Mecox atop the dunes adjacent to
the northern part of the parking lot.
To get there you can take Mecox Road to Jobs Lane to Dune Road and go all
the way to the parking lot at the end.

Anya Auerbach and I birded at Mecox Bay this morning. Highlights were 1
BAIRD'S SANDPIPER and 1 SANDWICH TERN. In addition we saw, 3 Western
Sandpipers, 1 Stilt Sandpiper, 5 White-rumped Sandpipers and 7 Black Terns.
Earlier Richard Kaskan had seen 3 BROWN PELICANS flying east along the ocean
beac
Today,while finding Mecox Bay cut open to the ocean (work completed yesterday,
per fishermen) I also managed to find singles of both N.Gannet & Parasitic
Jaeger, 2 Royal Terns, as well as 34 Black Scoters.
At Shinnecock Inlet, the only bird of note found was a C. Eider.

Early this morning, I had time for a quick ride out for a short visit, dreaming
of results like those experienced by Hugh & Andy later in the day. This mindset
was encouraged by the covey of (7) "tame" N. Bobwhite, that were on the road
within 100' of the western entrance to the bay-they even st
Tonight at Mecox, with water rushing in the inlet, the flat at the cut
abounded with birds. I ran into Andy Baldelli there and below are the
