Location: Manhattan - Swindler Cove Park & Sherman Creek
Reported by: Ben Cacace

This upper Manhattan park is situated along the Harlem River at the end of
Dyckman St. & 10th Avenue across the island from Fort Tryon Park.

A breeding plumaged adult RED-THROATED LOON was feeding at the mouth of
Sherman Creek at low tide. There was no need to dive so it fed from the
surface by submerging its head. The NYC Audubon checklist mistakenly lists
this loon as not seen in the city during Spring.

The most vocal birds were WARBLING VIREO, YELLOW WARBLER and NORTHERN
FLICKER.

Last 3 birds seen were GRAY CATBIRD, AMERICAN CROW and RED-TAILED HAWK.

May checklists [2]:
- # of birds seen on the last 2 trips were 36 & 35 respectively with a
combined total of 41.
- Birds missed [6]: American Kestrel, Downy Woodpecker, Tree Swallow,
Blackpoll Warbler, Brown-Headed Cowbird & House Finch.
- Additional birds seen [5]: RED-THROATED LOON, AMERICAN CROW, NORTHERN
ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOW, CEDAR WAXWING & NORTHERN CARDINAL.
