A three hour hike along the Nissequogue River watershed from Nissequogue River
State Park to the end of the Inner Marsh at Sunken Meadow State Park netted a
few early spring migrants today.  The highlights were 2 drake Green-winged Teal
of the "Eurasian" subspecies Anas crecca crecca in the wooded pond in
the southwest corner of the parking lot at NRSP, a Wood duck in the same pond,4
Killdeer, Golden-crowned Kinglets, and 7 Eastern Towhee.

Waterfowl numbers were still high in the Inner Marsh section of Sunken Meadow
Creek.  The highlights included quite a few Ring-necked ducks, 2 Bufflehead, 13
Hooded Merganser, a pair of Common Merganser, and an American Coot.  A total of
five Great Blue Herons were spotted along Sunken Meadow Creek.  A single
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker foraged in the trees along the IM trail.  One immature
Black-crowned Night-Heron was feeding near the boat basin of NRSP.
