Picking up Peter Post's April theme, the only Pileated Woodpecker I ever
saw in the five boroughs was on 28 April 1999 at Wave Hill, (Riverdale) The
Bronx.

There are Pileated Woodpecker records from The Bronx, Manhattan, and
Queens: two from VanCortlandt Park (one photographed), one from
Inwood Hill Park (also photographed), and one from Forest Park. I saw
the photos of one of the VanCortlandt birds and the one from Inwood.
Unfortun
We have them occasionally on Staten Island. Possibly a resident pair in the
greenbelt, otherwise a rare migrant from March through early May.
