After viewing the Painted Bunting and Black-headed Gull on Wednesday, I walked to the west side of the park and up the hill there. On my way down the west side, I noticed some Blue Jays going berserk on a Red-tailed Hawk sitting in a tree.
I noticed, upon closer inspection, that the Red-tailed Hawk was building a nest right next to the trail. Pretty exciting! HOWEVER, the Red-tail was using FISHING LINE from a (previously) unopened package to build the nest. I was told that there are people who will remove things like this from nests to prevent harm to young. Is this true? I figured this fine group of people would know if there was! -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
