The BBG ( Brooklyn Botanic Garden) birding class recorded 41 species at
Riis Park/ Ft.Tilden. Riis Park is completely open and part of Ft. Tilden is
open for birding. The highlights were 4 warbler species (Yel-rump, Cape
May, Palm, C.Yellowthroat) and 6 sparrow species (Field, Savannah, Song,
Swamp, White-throat, White-crowned). Blue-headed Vireo and Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker provided good views. The birds were in small pockets of activity and
could be easily missed. The best area was the north side of the golf course.
We did not see a single hawk during our 5 hour walk.
Best,
Joe Giunta
