Bill Lee and I arrived from upstate NY at about 2 30 PM Jan 2nd. There were
about a dozen birders looking in from the parking lot north loop road when we
got there. Nobody was “on” the bird when we arrived, so we joined in the vigil,
watching from the paved road surface (which included one woman who was about to
walk into the pines with her dog on a leash – fortunately after some
intervention that didn’t happen. But why was there a dog on a leash there in
the first place???). It was windy and cold standing out there waiting for the
bird to show. It didn’t. Gradually people began to leave until by about 3 30,
there were only three birders still looking, Bill, myself and one other birder.

By 4 00 it was just the two of us. And by 4 30 light began to fade and
presuming the bird had gone to roost, we decided to leave, We had a long drive
back home.

Good luck to anyone going tomorrow – and please be sure to share your findings
as soon as you can so others who have a long drive can decide whether to go or
not.
