NYMEX crude steadies above $136 after Nigeria threat

TOKYO, June 13 (Reuters) - U.S. crude oil futures treaded water on
Friday, after trading in a $6 range the previous day, when prices rose after
news of a possible strike in Nigeria erased earlier sharp losses on a
stronger dollar.
* Front-month U.S. crude for July delivery <CLc1> was down 10 cents, or
0.07 percent, at $136.64 a barrel on the Globex electronic trading platform.
On Thursday, it settled higher by 36 cents, or 0.26 percent, at $136.74,
after trading between $131.55 and $137.46.
* Nigeria's senior oil workers' union said on Thursday that talks to
avert a lockout at the local unit of Chevron <CVX.N> were not going well,
and renewed its strike threat. [nL12718266]
* The dollar gained on Thursday on a government report showing total
sales at U.S. retailers rose 1 percent in May, twice as much as expected.

* The global oil market is saturated with crude and there are no
problems with supplies, Iranian Oil Minister Gholamhossein Nozari was quoted

* U.S. oil futures regulators were working on a deal with their
counterparts in the United Kingdom to impose first-ever position limits on
West Texas Intermediate contracts on the ICE Futures Europe exchange, a U.S.
congressional source told Reuters on Thursday. [nN12348691]
* Traders will be looking to U.S. data on consumer prices for May and
real earnings, both due out later on Friday, for a gauge of how the economy
of the world's largest oil consumer is fairing. [ID:ECONUS]
