Dear Observatory, Please be aware that time to renew fire-arm licenses is drawing to close, the final date is 31 March 2009. As I understand it, licensed fire-arm owners who have yet to apply for renewal of their licenses will have to follow these procedures: 1. Contact an accredited SASSETA Assessor to obtain the necessary training and assessment information. 2. Provide two certified copies of your ID and take along your fire-arm license. 3. Pay the admin fee. In my case it was R 390.00 4. Study the course material and complete the questionaire (an open book exam at home). 5. Attend a closed book exam of the course. 6. If successful, obtain your certificate of competency and take it to your Designated Police Officer for fire-arm licenses and arrange a date for an inspection of your safe and subsequent interviews of your spouse/partner/neighbours and complete the application for renewal of your license(s). For self-defence, one may only own ONE fire-arm and the new license is valid for 5 years. For hunters and sports-shooting fire-arm owners, they may hold more than one weapon and the license is valid for 10 years. If you require any additional information, please contact me directly at gra...@iafrica.com and I will provide the details of an accredited assessor. Please be warned, if you do not renew your gun license, you may be arrested, your fire-arm confiscated and you could spend time in jail, along with the other owners of illegal firearms. This could prove to be a rather painful experience, especially if your barrel is rebored to accept a larger calibre. Brian Gray. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~
