My brother was robbed of a substantial amount of money about 2 years ago
after he made a business withdrawal at FNB mowbray and has had his eyes
glued to his rear view mirrors ever since. this is an old trick of the
robbers, but has not been heard/read about for some time.
Check your mirrors constantly after driving away from a bank or even an ATM
.

Subject: [obsnw] 'Bank followings' on the rise

>
> An article was posted on News24 recently warning that 'bank
> followings' are on the increase. There was a case not long ago in Obs
> when someone was followed home all the way from a bank in Pinelands
> where he had drawn a large sum of cash. As I remember he was held up
> at gunpoint outside his house. The article quotes Snr Supt van der
> Ross, the commander of Cape Town's 'war room', as saying that there
> has been 'a steep steep increase' in this form of crime. Typically a
> 'spotter' will loiter inside a bank and contact his accomplices by
> cellphone when he spots a target. According to van der Ross there is
> no uniformity in the policies of different banks re. cellphone usage
> inside banks: police have viewed footage of criminals entering banks
> wearing sunglassess and caps! The police seem to be struggling to get
> the necessary levels of cooperation from the banks, in spite of
> convening a meeting at the end of January of reps from the top five
> banks. According to van der Ross, they have not been particularly
> cooperative. Every bank should, for example, have a floor manager who
> actively monitors what is happening inside the bank.
> Suggestion: ask you branch manager what they are doing about this.
