Hi Guido,
Thanks for forwarding this, libc++ sounds rather promising.
Without us testing it there's no way to know for sure what kind of issues we'll
see in the field, so I'll mention in the policy document draft that libc++ is a
candidate for our default open C++ library subject to testing.

Just a quick note. I fully support moving to an open C++ library, but be
advised that we will still need the closed Sun binaries in order to support
legacy apps. Of course I think nobody should use C++ but that is a different
rant and probably highly controversial. :)

I doubt Oracle will care about binary compatibility going forward, and I half
expect us not to see any more separate Solaris releases after Solaris 11. If
it is not in Exadata, I don't think Oracle cares.

I'm going to point this out, as I've dealt with C++ development for quite some
time.
Stick with GCC/libstdc++ as the baseline.
GCC 4.5.2 is preferred. Updating to GCC 4.5.3 is up to OI/Illumos development
teams in whole. Don't use GCC 4.6.x for the current oi_151(a-z) stabilization.

Hi All
Due to last minute packaging fixes I wasn't able to update the /dev-il
repo last night. I have pushed new packages to /dev-il repo this morning
and image-updated my 148b machine from it. It appears to be working ok
so far.
If you plan to build illumos-gate on oi_151 please note that b

Hi Ken
I can confirm I am getting the same problem with the GUI tool on b148.
The same system can be upgraded using pkg(5) command just fine.

I'm bumping this, as part of the problem that needs sorting is where to manage
security patches that need doing around 151. I had an agenda item for last
week's meeting to discuss this.
Hopefully we'll be able to discuss this at today's meeting (which *is*
happening? ;->).
