Howdy:
On 148b test box here my nVidia drivers are at rev. 256.44, wh/nVidia
released August of last year and a bit glitchy. Current drivers are at
rev 270.41.19 and per nVidia fix at least the following bugs:
* Fixed a bug in the VDPAU presentation queue that could cause 1
second
Nvida website versus Oracle's modified
version.
Check with Illumos team as they handle device drivers.

Can't say but given how far nouveau lags behind full support for nVidia
cards that have been around for years, I should think it would be fairly
monumental, fall more under xorg's scope,

In order to even be able to port Nouveau Illumos would need KMS
and GEM support first. In fact the lack thereof also prevents
updating the Intel driver or porting modern ATI drivers.
