I was aware to use at least not yet released software, but not what exact
branch it stems from. Is there a opensuse repo, you are aware of, where one can
get the pre-release versions of the next-apps?

The very file existed here, but was empty. I removed it anyway and still,
printing is done with duplex no matter whether "None" or "Long Side" is set in
okular printing dialog

Yes, when I read my first comment the behavior changed from always single pages
to always duplex. Didn't realize it up to now.
Your modified ppd-file makes no difference here. Still only duplex.

Bit differently from the original description (for windows), here pdf pages are
always shown, but okular crashes after highlighting 4-6 text positions every
time.
And I do not have any custom settings applied

I attached a pdf as an example. However, it does not matter which pdf is used.
If I use the text highlighting annotation, okular will crash after adding 3-8
further highlights to a previously saved pdf
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=387247
--- Comment #14 from Robby Engelmann ---
Not to forget: It is also the same for the 1.2.90 version of okular (RC of KDE
apps 17.12).

Oki, I learn to be as precise as possible the next time. I did not expect, that
saving is the important point here, although I am well aware that I saved
always before the bug got triggered.
