Daron, a little history of how brakes work,
On these oldies, the single master cylinder was the first idea of
hydraulic braking, one master "pumping" cylinder that was connected to
all 4 wheels thru a series of tees along the main tubing. They created
different front to rear braking power rat

Just got back home after spending easter in St. Louis visiting
family. Had a chance to go to the anual Easter car show in forest
park. Hadn't been to it since I was 18 ( 22 yrs ago) Lots of great
cars but only two trucks. Oh well, I'll have to look around for some
other show this spring/s

Very nice, but SWMBO said %*$! No.
Oh well, I live in a deed restricted community and thought it would

I am wanting to replace the origional master cylinder. I am thinking of a dual
master cylinder Disc/drum. It is required to use a proportional valve with it.
My question is; If I install a disc/ drum manual master cylinder. Can I use
it with drum to drum and then later if I want to put disc
A type of shoulder harness belt system is shown in my factory accessories book,
but I don't remember ever seeing any for sale reproduced. They are not like
modern ones, more like a race car from what I could make out of the drawings.
Just a thought if you really wanted to go that route.

Well... the condition of the bushings that connect the shift rods has something
to do with it too. Larry shared his rebuild link the other day

which can reveal a different problem. So who's to say your replacement was a
complete waste of money -
Okay, let me throw this at you guys. 2 years ago I got my 51 1/2 ton. The
gears would get jammed going from 1st or Rev. So Ive been careful with no
problems but my wife wouldnt drive it due to the problem. I tried snugging it
up but didnt fix it. So figuring the fork was slipping past the ea
I second that. Actually, if you notice, any battery left on concrete will be
dead by morning (if left at nite). Don't know the science behind why concrete
does this to batteries, but I have cursed myself many times over completely

SWMBO has a new truck, one of Henry's, the relative of
the guy who started Kingsford charcoal.
It's nice inside, real quiet, etc. But it has some
tranny problem that's intermittent and it drives her
nuts. I fueled it up yesterday for her, almost gave me
a heart attack when I saw the cost.

Jon, I bought mine from Chevy Duty, are the no frills lap belts. I didn't go
the shoulder harness route cuz didn't want to spoil stock appearance.

I have a 1937 Ford Phaeton sitting in my garage that has mechanical brakes.
No hydraulics, just cables to actuate the system. The car has a V-8 engine
in it, has an extraordinary amount of 'get up and go', and the brakes work
extremly well. In fact, if you werent told they were mechanical, you

Any recommendations on what seat belts to get for my
55 2nd series 2 ton?
Any recommended vendor/seller?
I guess the ones that fit the pickups will fit the 2
ton since the seat's the same.
Thanks

Jeff, the old drum brakes on these trucks worked well for many, many years
before disc brakes came along. You'll be fine with the stock brakes. But
you'll need to always keep in mind these old trucksand any older auto
with drum brakeswon't stop you as quickly as a new car with disc br
Jeff, I recommend upgrade to a dual chamber master cylinder. This not a power
unit, merely improved over the original single. Power is not at all necessary
to stop your truck. While you're at it, also replace the flex lines on front
wheels.
This list is definitely a "restore to original" crowd
Relevant to this thread about drained battery - I discovered that if I have my
truck up on stands for any length of time, it'll drain the battery dead. Get
in the habit of disconnecting the pos post if you're gonna leave it up on
stands for more than a couple of hours.

I left the brake system original on my '51 3/4 ton. and they are fine. I do
always keep in mind that they are original and on a very heavy truck. I
always leave myself plenty of stopping room and down shift to ease the
burden on the brakes.
