Ian you mentioned a fuel pump issue maybe.
Until recently NHRA let us run a hardline fuel press gauge up to the
cowl outside the windshield.
At WOT end of the 1/4 mile 5-7000 rpm you could see if the fuel pump
was doing its job feeding mr. motor gas.

but, one more time. Or point me. Would you use something like a Carter
P74019 for a 1971 Vista? It's not in the tank is it? Does yours get wired
with the oil pressure? Does it have an integrated fuel pressure regulator?

engine is running lean. The engine starts beautifully, idle is great,
pulls until 2700 and then falls on its face.
You should have enough fuel in the float bowl to get over 2700 rpm,
