So it sounds like it's a good idea to use a lead substitute in my car.
The
question I have is which to use. I can no longer find Bardal's "Instead

Why did this happen? Why would I get horribly low readings with a cold
engine but OK readings with a warm engine? Is this abnormal?
First, on the cold engine which hadn't been run for a few days, all the oil
had drained out of the ring area. Oil on the cylinder walls does help to

Folks,
I have a 90 Cutlass Ciera which runs well but sometimes has a miss/sputter at idle that I decided to try to track down. I made sure I had no vacuum leaks, and my plugs and wires are OK, so I figured I would check the compression. It has the 2.5L 4 cyl in it, by the way.

Thanks all of you guys for the info, it is so nice to know the things
instead of guessing them.
The "bigger" crank we have found here would be a nodular one... looks
stronger than the cast one from the original engine.
best regards

Remember that you need the early flex plate to match the bolt pattern on
the early crank for the '64-'67 330, '65-'67 425 and '65-'67 400.

i can vouch for that, i didn't hear anything negative about him (most of
which has been covered here) until well after he left the forum
perhaps there are extenuating circumstances which, while inexcusable,
may be explainable in nature

Joe, the lead deposit on valve seats lives for 3 unleaded tanks - this was
largely promoted in France when the green gas appeared.
So once the Pb is out there is a possibility to have some friction between
the valve and the seat, which can lead to a serious seat recess - this was
happening with
Bryan, I am glad to hear this worked for you. We fought it for a long time
and then found such a simple fix.

Hello, I always wondered what went wrong with Joe. He was really into Oldsmobiles and seemed like a stand-up guy. After hearing the parts stuff one would think he would either make it right or just get out of Olds and hide. I know he had a lot of "marriage" problems, hey, thats stuff is self-infli
OTOH, that does have me wondering, what causes the recession in the
pre-unleaded era heads if they spent their first few years using leaded
gas?
Normal wear and tear and engine abuse. The cast iron seats are soft. The
valves were only alloy steel.
